Mike Startare left the creative world of directing television films to begin his career in the mortgage industry in 2001. He survived the culture shock of going from working with eccentric artists to buttoned down bankers. He has since helped hundreds of clients finance their homes, including members of the military and first-time home borrowers.

Since coming to Atlantic Bay in 2011, Mike Startare has gained a deep insight into the concerns and apprehensions of home buyers. Mindful of how stressful it can be to buy a house, he strives to be a confidant to his clients. Mike says, “People are looking to me to guide them in the right direction. I try to encourage them to ask questions. I tell them, ‘I am not an 800 number. If you want to send me a text or chit chat about what’s going on, you can. Email me and I will respond to you. I’ll put it in perspective for you and tell you what I think. If you have a problem, tell me now. Don’t wait until it is too late because I can help you get through this. We are working on this together.”

Known among clients for his understanding and compassion, Mike says, “I am upfront, honest and tell clients how it is. I explain potential problems that may come up. I tell them exactly what’s going on. I am their confidant and the one they can talk to. Tell me if you don’t understand something. Tell me if you are upset about something. I try to relate with my clients on a personal level so they feel comfortable asking me things.”
